Never Never Land

Post by Anthony Ang on Wed Jan 05, 2011 6:04 am

"Never Never Land" is a small fund raising event organised this Saturday 8 Jan evening 7 pm at MiHUB Cafe, 240 Hoppers Lane, Werribee. It is a talk and video/powerpoint display by talented photojournalist and film maker Jake Simkin. A flyer advertising the event is attached.

31 year old Jake is a local resident, but spends much of his year travelling to such far flung lands as Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Somalia.

Most of Jake's photographic work deals with issues relating to children, andthe rebuilding of destroyed communities. He acts for example, as a 'visual commentator' in the post reconstruction of Banda Aceh, following the devastating Indonesian tsunami.

The Migrant HUB is immensely proud of the fact that Jake is the son of MiHUB cafe chef and manager Nora Simkin, who has been featured in articles about The Migrant HUB and its social enterprise MiHUB Cafe published in local newspapers over the past twelve months.

Examples of Jake's work are:
